There is sometimes confusion in churches regarding tithes and offerings. Neither are a New Testament requirement. Giving is not a "have to" but a "get to". Giving can be an act of worship, a demonstration of faith that God is your provider, and a way to partner with God in the building of His Kingdom. A tithe is a mathematical term meaning 10%, and Biblically this 10% should be the first fruits of your labor. An offering can be anything you are offering up to the Lord. Usually this is considered any amount above and beyond your tithe. Giving should always be done cheerfully, reverently, and prayerfully, and is usually an early milestone on the journey to maturity in a sincere Christian's life.
